The Founders of BobiHealth Reflect on Two Years of Making Pregnancy Safer

At BobiHealth, our mission is personal—and so is every element of our work. Behind every innovation, every product feature, and every partnership decision is a team deeply committed to improving maternal health through equitable, data-driven care. I recently met with our three co-founders to ask a few questions about what prompted them to create BobiHealth, what they’ve learned and achieved over the past two years, and how we aspire to expand and evolve in the future. Their answers are authentic, reflective, and a powerful reminder of what can happen when lived experience, a passion for equity and empathy, and bold innovation combine.

What inspired you to create BobiHealth?

Ann: I struggled getting pregnant, then I struggled remaining pregnant. After three miscarriages, my following three pregnancies were considered high-risk. Throw in a chronic disease during the third pregnancy, and I was scared every day of my pregnancies that I would lose my babies again. An app like BobiHealth would have helped me tremendously and I would have enjoyed my pregnancies more. Having three daughters now, I wanted to make sure that they don’t go through the same challenges. I want them to have an app that empowers and supports them all the way.

Dave: As a father and military veteran who experienced the fear and uncertainty of a high-risk pregnancy firsthand, I was deeply moved by how fragile maternal healthcare can be—especially for those without easy access to specialized care. BobiHealth was born from a personal mission to ensure that no one feels alone or overlooked during pregnancy. Our platform is designed to advance maternal health equity by giving all families—regardless of geography, income, or background—access to real-time health insights, early warnings, and evidence-based education. We empower users with agency and knowledge, transforming passive experiences into proactive, informed care journeys. Our goal isn’t just to reduce maternal mortality—it’s to redefine maternal care as something that is predictive, personalized, and just.

Mohit: I was inspired by the power of analytics and AI [artificial intelligence] to close critical care gaps—especially in maternal health, where real-time insights can save lives. The idea of empowering women through app-based education and predictive support resonated deeply with me, and when Dave shared his vision, it was clear we had something novel and urgently needed. I knew this was the kind of technology worth building.

What are you most proud of achieving in BobiHealth’s first two years?

Dave: I’m incredibly proud of how far we’ve come in such a short time—from an idea to a real, impactful solution with global reach. In just two years, BobiHealth has launched a minimum viable product in multiple countries, proven our predictive capabilities, and earned the trust of over 2,000 users. We’ve secured a patent, been accepted into prestigious programs like MassChallenge and Founder Institute, and established partnerships with community and global health organizations. But more than the milestones, what I’m proudest of is the mission-driven team we've built and the lives we’ve already helped—especially in underserved areas. Every alert we generate, every mother who feels safer because of our app, and every partner who sees the potential in our vision reaffirm that we’re doing something truly meaningful.

Ann: I am proud of how the app has come together and is ready to work with healthcare providers and insurance companies. It looks beautiful, users feel supported, and it gives users the information they need to make data-driven decisions. We are able to offer it not only in English but also in Spanish, which is huge.  I am also proud of the team we have built; everyone is passionate about this product and has poured their heart into it, and you can tell.

Mohit: I'm proud that we’ve built a scalable, privacy-conscious AI platform that’s already supporting users using both iOS and Android and in English and Spanish. We've gone from concept to a clinically informed, user-friendly product that delivers predictive alerts, personalized guidance, and real-world impact. Most importantly, we’ve done it with a mission-driven team that believes in building technology that’s as inclusive as it is intelligent.

Founding a startup is not easy. Can you share a lesson you've learned that you wish you knew two years ago?

Dave: One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that building the right product is only half the battle—finding the right market is just as critical. When we first launched BobiHealth, we focused heavily on the direct-to-consumer model, driven by our passion to get our app into as many hands as possible. But we quickly learned that even a life-saving tool needs a clear path to adoption, especially in the fragmented landscape of healthcare. Shifting to a B2B [business-to-business] model focused on value-based care systems was a hard but necessary pivot. It meant rethinking our sales strategy, redefining our unit economics, and building trust with new types of partners. I wish I had anticipated earlier how much time and experimentation it takes to truly validate both the product and the business model—but I’m grateful we listened, adapted, and are now stronger because of it.

Mohit: I’ve learned that building great technology is only part of the journey—deep user empathy and constant iteration are just as critical. Early on, I focused on engineering a strong product, but I’ve come to realize that truly impactful healthcare solutions must be co-designed with the people they serve. Listening closely, adapting quickly, and balancing innovation with trust has been the biggest growth curve—and the most valuable lesson.

Ann: I learned that nothing is as straightforward as you think it is. When you think you have figured something out, then a curveball comes your way and you have to solve another challenge. I don’t think it would have been good for me to know this two years ago, though; I might not have taken on this project. This startup has definitely made me grow and I have learned so much on the way; it’s been an invaluable experience and I am grateful I was given the opportunity to be part of this journey since day one.

How do you see BobiHealth evolving over the next two years? Are there any exciting developments you can share?

Ann:  Over the next two years, the app will grow a lot. We are expanding the educational components and we are also working on a postpartum dashboard to cover users for one year postpartum. Our app will be the one-stop-shop for expecting and new parents; it will also include baby’s milestones and a partner dashboard where the partner can see whatever the user wants to share with them during the pregnancy and postpartum (such as the last feeding time of the baby or the last diaper change). We are also expecting this app to be offered through clinics and insurance.

Dave: Over the next two years, we envision BobiHealth becoming a leading maternal health intelligence platform—not just an app. We’re moving beyond symptom tracking to become an integrated part of the preventive care ecosystem, offering real-time decision-making support for patients and providers alike. We're actively expanding our B2B partnerships with value-based healthcare systems to improve maternal outcomes and reduce costs through predictive analytics and early intervention. Exciting developments ahead include piloting our platform with clinical partners in underserved areas, advancing our AI models with larger, more diverse datasets, and launching enhanced features for mental health support, nutrition tracking, and culturally tailored education. We’re also exploring international expansion and collaborations with academic institutions to validate outcomes and scale responsibly. Ultimately, we’re building toward a future where every pregnancy is safer, smarter, and more supported—globally.

Mohit: Over the next two years, BobiHealth will evolve into a full-stack maternal health intelligence platform—expanding beyond pregnancy, integrating with clinical systems, and enhancing our AI to deliver personalized, real-time insights while maintaining the highest standards of data privacy and equity.

Thinking about where the company started and what you’ve learned up till today, how would you summarize the future of BobiHealth, in one sentence?

Dave: BobiHealth is shaping a future of maternal care that is radically inclusive, where every birthing person—regardless of background or geography—has the tools, technology, and support they need to thrive.

Ann:  BobiHealth will be the number one pregnancy platform worldwide that empowers all users to take control of their pregnancies and to make informed decisions to protect their health, and well-being and the health and well-being of their families.

Mohit: BobiHealth is on a mission to turn every data point into a moment of care, ensuring no expectant parent is ever left in the dark again.

As we look ahead, one thing is clear: the future of maternal health depends on more than good intentions and the latest technology—it requires listening, collaboration, and a persistent focus on equity and impact.
